Keeping to its promise of transparency, social media giant
Facebook has unveiled a new corporate logo almost 15 years after it launched its eponymous social media networking website.
The new logo, which has Facebook written in capital letters, is different from that of its social media app Facebook which will retain its white and blue branding.
The Facebook logo will appear on its family of apps informing users about the ownership. The social media company owns a number of platforms, including photo-sharing app Instagram, messaging app WhatsApp, social media networking platform Facebook and its chatting app Messenger.
Together with all its apps, Facebook boasts of some 2.8 billion users globally. The company clocked $17.6 billion in revenue during the quarter ended September.
“Today, we’re updating our company branding to be clearer about the products that come from Facebook. We’re introducing a new company logo and further distinguishing the Facebook company from the Facebook app, which will keep its own branding.
The new branding was designed for clarity, and uses custom typography and capitalization to create visual distinction between the company and app,” said Antonio Lucio, chief marketing officer Facebook in a blogpost.
Globally, Facebook’s services also include Oculus, Workplace, Portal and Calibra.
“We started being clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook. In June we began including “from Facebook” within all our apps. Over the coming weeks, we will start using the new brand within our products and marketing materials, including a new company website,” added Lucio.
Facebook has been under pressure globally due to instances of data breach, user safety as well as misinformation and fake news related issues. It has been facing scrutiny from governments around the world, including India.
With 451 million active monthly internet users at end of financial year 2019, India is now second only to China in terms of internet users, according to the Internet and Mobile Association of India.
Social media platforms are the immediate beneficiaries of this digital revolution as they have changed the way Indians communicate and share information.
Currently, the Indian government is working on social media guidelines which are expected to come out by early next year.
